Incredible writing and deeply insightful. How travel writing should be - more action packed reflection than voyeuristic indulgence.
A travel log with a difference, I would recommend this book to anyone keen for a good yarn about places your government probably warned you about.
It's a searing insight into the the depths of human struggles in some of the most volatile parts of the globe. However Ali MC also manages to find pockets of redemptive humanity surviving in these dark desperate places; which, like candle light, are beautifully illuminating.
Reality can turn out to be far stranger, than the design that is fiction.
Ali MC has stridently undertaken to relate the realities that he has come across, across the globe.
As someone who has spent time living and working in different parts of Africa and in conflict zones of the Middle East, reading 'The Eyeball End' has gelled so much with me. The communication of his experiences echoes within me, as being so honest, true, and factual.
What Ali MC has related, resounds in me, and makes me recall and re - think much of what I have had experience with.
